Getting in shape by training 52 weeks a year
Hi! My name is Harri Lammi and I’m the author of 52Lives.com. This blog is about a one year project to get in better shape. You can find helpful tips and training plans here and use them in your quest for better fitness (if you are in the same kind of situation
).
I have been exercising and doing sports most of my life. I started playing ice hockey in the age of seven. My other favorite sports are basketball, weight lifting, skateboarding (although I no more practise it
) and running.
As I’m getting closer to the 30-year milestone I have started - again - to pay more attention to my health and fitness. I’m working as a software engineer, so I spend most of my days just sitting in the office. In the evenings I’m busy with my family - we have two amazing little boys that keep my wife and myself occupied
I got my first warning from the doctor because I have a high blood pressure. That event kind of woke me up to take care of myself again. I think of myself as a sports oriented guy, but then I had to face the facts. I had changed from a athletic teenager to a overweighted office worker. I decided to do something about it, I would start training again.
I wanted to have flexibility in my training schedule, so I came up with the idea of a weekly training plan. There are 52 weeks in one year so that’s the story behind the title of the blog - 52Lives. I have set some goals and I expect to reach some or all of them during the next 52 weeks. If this system works out, I’m going to start the next 52Lives cycle again next summer!
So that’s the basic introduction to this blog. If it’s your first time here, I recommend you to read the posts about The 3000m Cooper Test Challenge which is my first goal.
