L15-L16: Badminton Secrets Revelead And New Skis
Again it took me two weeks to write the _weekly_ wrap but there’s a chance my posting frequency will get back to normal from now on. Lately my biggest time consumer has been a WordPress plugin called AZ-One. This was the first plugin I’ve implemented, so it took a lot of effort in learning and in coding. But I got it ready on December 6th (which happens to be the Independence Day of Finland) so there was a lot to celebrate! I was happy and proud to release the first version since I think it will help a lot of bloggers to generate more income. On the other hand I was reliefed to get it off my hands for a while, since it has been literally the only thing in my mind for the last 2 months. But at the momemt I feel like I had climb on a mountain, the feeling is just so great!
There are also good news on the exercise side. Last week which was week number 15, I went to the 2-hour badminton lesson. I promised to post if there would be some useful information and I got to say the amount of KILLER information was HUGE! It again reminded me that if you want to maximise your learning, get an expert to teach you the things. The benefit of having somebody to instruct you versus learning from a DVD is that a person can tell you were you are making the mistakes. That’s something a DVD can’t do. After playing badminton occasionally for years, there are lots of movements that I make without thinking. So when the expert showed me another style of hitting the shuttlecock, I had to constantly think how to use the racquet and how to move to the correct position. I did it wrong many times without noticing it by myself, but luckily I had an instructor that could immediately tell me how to do it right.
The benefit of taking the course was that I now can play with less effort and I got more interested to play badminton. It’s like with running or any other equipment sport, you can buy your motivation back
Other exercises during these weeks have included 3 x gym and yesterday evening I went to play rinkball. It’s a sport similar to ice hockey, but it’s played with a ball, shorter sticks and no checking allowed. Since I’m tall, heavy and slow I prefer to play ice hockey
But with my current life situation rinkball is the second best alternative to ice hockey. The games are shorter (2 x 20 min) in the hobby series, so it’s easier to dedicate time from my busy schedule compared to hockey games which took 2 hours plus travelling and pre/post game activities. But there’s no doubt that when my boys get older I will definetly play hockey again
Oh, just one more thing. I bought a new pair of cross-country skis. There’s an event called Pirkan Hiihto in 2008 which I’m going to attend. It’s the longest one day ski race in Finland, 90 km (!), so it’s time to start training. Last time I was on skis was in February when I took a 6 km route. Even that was challenge for me, so I need to work on my skiing technique. Maybe I’ll go for a crash course or ask an expert to help me ![]()
