My Top 10 Sports Injuries
As injuries are part of sports I think every one of us have had some experience with them. They’re irritating at the moment they appear, but after years they start to feel like “trophies”. You show them to other people, talk about them like they were your old friends and remember the event that caused the injury like it happened yesterday. I bet that people who train collision sports or martial arts have interesting stories to tell
I gathered my little trophy shelf here, feel free to post yours in the comments
My Top 10 Sports Injuries
- Herniated disc. This injury was actually got while working in the summer of 2005, but it has renewed while doing sports. One of the most nastiest injuries a man can get. My doctor told me this one was exceptionally nasty, since the disks had moved to both directions (to front and back), so there basically wasn’t any “good” position where I could relax. Took 3 months to recover and 9 months more to get back to sports. Ouch!
- Concussion. The only time I’ve been taken to the hospital with an ambulance
Happened in a junior ice hockey match. I got a pass from behind, so I turned my head to see where the puck was coming from. Then I turned my head back to the front and wham - I got checked by a bigger guy. - Lower back cramp. Second worst injury after the herniated disc. First time I cramped my lower back was while playing basketball. I went for a layup, turned my hip somehow and landed akwardly. After the game my back kept cramping and the next morning I couldn’t turn, stand, walk, do anything. When my father took me to the hospital it was extremely hard even to lie in the backseat. And yes, I got this injury again after couple of years
- Loose ankles. I twisted my ankle first time in an ice hockey match. I was speeding to the goal, lost my balance and landed on my ankle. I heard a snap and there it was
This injury repeated many times while playing basketball with bad shoes. Nowadays both of my ankles are loose and easily injured. - Swollen elbow. Ice hockey again
I’ve fallen on my elbows many times, but there are two occasions which I remember very well. The other time my elbow got swollen to the size of an orange. The other time I noticed there was a hole (?) in my elbow
- Broken toe. This is my oldest injury. I was on the 5th grade and there was some school party. All the students had to dance at the same time and I knocked my toe against some other kid’s foot. Result: broken toe and no skateboarding for a day.
- Fragile knees. As a kid I grew up fast. I also did a lot of sports, so my knees couldn’t keep up. I got little bumbs on both of my knees, they’re filled with small pieces of the bone. Knees are also the first body parts that react on hard exercise.
- Malformed thumb. It was the first basketball practise after the summer and we were dunking to the little kid’s basket. I hit my thumb hard against the ring and now my thumb has an extra joint
- Fractured teeth. I still have all my teeth left (knock, knock) but two of them are cut from the middle. Would you believe they occurred in an ice hockey match
- Stiff joints. After hard exercises or a direct hits (e.g. fingers hit by a basketball) I’ve had stiff joints 1-3 days.
Whew! That was an exhaustive list. Now what’s your story?

broken collarbone jumping off a swing. figure that one out. Head first dive when I was seven. Made the landing using no hands! YES!
my right eye swelled shut after a line drive put me on my ass.
I have been shot in the goodies with a paintball marker and swore I was going to die.
fallen off my house to land halfway on a trampoline, breaking my fall with my testicles. After throwing up more than I knew my digestive system contained, I was good as new.

I broke my pelvis and then my wrist. I broke my pelvis the third day of football season walking into my house wet from the pool. I slipped and my leg flew out with so much force that the tendon literally ripped a chunk of my pelvis out. I was out for 6 weeks then my first day back at practice we were doing tackleing drills and this big bastard landed on my hand and broke my wrist in two places. was out the rest of the season.
when i was 6 my brother and i were play fighting and he threw a shovel at me the corner hit my left eye. I walked up 6 flights of stairs to our apartment dripping blood from my eye. When we got the the emergency room they immediatly put me out and preformed eye surgery, my first surgery, after i heald i would count the blood dropplets everyday after school.
Then, when i was 15, I went swimming with my contacts in and got an eye infection. I almost lost my eye and was blind for about 4 and a half weeks.
besides that broken fingers and toes but those happen too often for any memorable story
