L10: Do You Know The Best Part of Being SICK?

This week was a disaster what it comes to training. I had a bad flu, so I skipped every chance I had to go jogging in my shiny brand new shoes… They’re just waiting there to get dirty… I bought a new pair of running socks on Saturday, so I’d better get well and soon! Otherwise all my money goes to Nike’s/Asics’ pocket.

Instead of the typical weekly wrap up, I put my week in to the acronym SICK. Wanna know what is the best part of being SICK?

Have You Lost Your Motivation? Go Buy It Back!

Brooks Trance 7In the last posts I’ve been writing how the cold weather has affected my runnning motivation. You know what is like to go out in the rain. The worst part is when you’re still inside and looking out the window. No way you gonna go there. But if you have the will power and you put decent clothing on, the run won’t feel as bad as in the first place. So basically the most critical motivation you need is the motivation to show up. I had lost that motivation, but today I bought it back. I got myself new running shoes.

Couple of weeks ago I broke the cushion of my running shoe. There was a short, plastic nail on the ground and I stepped on it. I didn’t notice it at the time, but two days later I noticed the weird sound on every other step. I took the nail out. The weird sound was replaced by a “boof” sound (the air coming out from the cushion) and needless to say, the cushion wasn’t working anymore.

Anyways, I had already thought about getting new shoes and had my eyes on Asics shoes. I had heard good comments about Asics, so I was eager to try them myself. I was going to buy the shoes from internet (cheaper…) after trying them first, so I needed to go to a local store.

Then I made the two common mistakes every running forum is telling NOT to do…

Deadly Disease, Cure That Kills, Unexpected Victory: Just Another Day In Athlete’s Life

Lance Armstrong - It’s Not About the Bike: My Journey Back to LifeI didn’t know much about Lance Armstrong before I read this book. I knew he was a professional cyclist, he had been dominating Tour De France for years and that there were rumors he’d been using performance enhancing drugs. This was pretty much the image I had received by watching the sports news.

When I noticed Lance’s book in our local library, I thought twice before picking up the book. I do like cycling, but I thought this would be a book for hardcore cyclists, filled with boast of the Tour De France victories. What changed my mind was the back cover. It revealed there was a lot more in this book, so I decided to at least glance it through. Back at home I forgot the book to my shelf for couple of weeks.

As the return date got closer, I opened the book just for a quick browse through. Then happened something I’ve witnessed only two times before - I just couldn’t stop reading!

So what it was in this book that got me hooked?

Is It Christmas Already Or Why Is This Guy Giving Away $54,000?

This morning I’m confused: is it Christmas already? You know, I have been lucky to be training for 3 days in a row and today I’m going to the gym. I feel myself fortunate, I haven’t trained like this since high school. But on top of it my favorite blogger is giving away $54,000 in prizes! Who is this Santa Claus? Doesn’t he know it’s still 2 months to Christmas???

Climbing Up The Walls, Gravity Is Just A Joke

I’m a fan of parkour. I haven’t tried it myself, but the videos I’ve seen leave me breathless. How these guys do it? After watching this video I imagined myself hanging on a 4-store high building and then looking down to the ground. Just imaging that gave me the chills. Maybe someday I have the courage to hang on a roof edge, without thinking about falling…
